AUDI decided to launch serial production of electrical modification of the R8 supercar called E-Tron.
Work on the Audi R8 E-Tron project in 2012 was suspended by the leadership, since the bosses of the German company have no confidence that an electric supercar could arouse great interest among potential buyers. Wolfgang Durheimer, ex-head of the Audi Research Department, at the end of last year said he was not satisfied with the Audi R8 E-Tron batteries. The battery applied at a high cost for the consumer could provide only a small mileage on one full charge. Audi engineers managed to solve both of these problems, informs Autocar. Detailed information has not been disclosed, however, it is known that the range of mileage from one battery charge increased to 400 kilometers from 215. This gave reason to the company’s management to resume the discussion of the future of this development. Apparently, the project is given “Green Light”. The presentation of the Audi R8 electric car will take place after the new generation of supercar will enter the market. It is expected that this will happen in 2014. The power plant of the first copies of the Audi R8 E-Tron consisted of two electric motors with a return of 190 “horses” and a torque of 410 nm. Such a supercar reached hundreds of kilometers per hour in just 4.2 s. A little earlier, the German automaker declassified the characteristics of the serial modification of the Audi Sport Qttro. Built on a shortened version of the A6 line chassis will be acquired by a full -wheel drive system.
